PRESIDENTS CORNER

March 2024

I hope this note finds you well. My apologies for the delay in sending you a recap of our annual meeting held earlier this year. So here goes…

First a big THANK YOU to Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club (PMRPC) for allowing FSSA to hold our Annual Members Meeting and Board of Directors meeting at their club. Thanks to PMRPC “VP” Maria Wolford for all her great efforts to host our meeting. We began our members meeting with a welcome to our members and verifying a quorum to proceed with the meeting. Thanks to those FSSA members who attended in person and all those who sent in their ballots and signed Proxy forms…we had a quorum. Last year’s minutes were reviewed and approved, and the officer’s and director's reports were presented. FSSA received nearly 130 mail /email ballots. We had 16 members present for the Annual Meeting (including Board members). Thanks to our Directors for their reports. We were able to give a good account of FSSA's activities over the past year that included a recap of state and national championships and junior and women’s activities. The Treasurer reported that FSSA remains in solid financial shape. Election results were presented. I'd like to Congratulate and Welcome our new Directors. Troy Wolford was elected and accepted the position as a High Power Director. Adam Shrider was elected and accepted the position as a Smallbore Director. Congratulations and Welcome Back to our reelected Directors: Bob Grimes (Junior Activities), Ed Hess (Smallbore), Bill Hyde (Silhouette) and Stephen Price (Pistol). The Members Meeting ended with a question-and-answer session, and we adjourned. Thank You Maria for organizing the delicious burgers, beans, and homemade potato salad with tea, water, and coffee. The dessert was provided by Hope, with her always awesome banana pudding. We had plenty to share with the members and enjoyed some time talking before moving on to our first director's meeting of 2024.

Thanks to all our directors for serving our members and affiliated clubs. The 2024 Officers were elected and remain unchanged from last year: Ted Carter - President, Joe Waldron - Vice President, Sue Carter - Secretary and Treasurer. The Board discussed grant funding and approved the motion for $4,000 for 2024. The Treasurer reviewed the cash flow projection inputs for 2024 and the Board approved.

Thanks to Junior Directors Jennifer Stanton-Khork and Bob Grimes, Florida held a USA Shooting (USAS) - State Junior Olympic Rifle and Pistol championship in February. Juniors from around Florida competed in Smallbore Rifle, Air Rifle, Air Pistol, and Sport Pistol. As a result, several of Florida’s junior men and women received invitations to the 2024 USAS National Junior Olympic Rifle and Pistol Championships in April at the US Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs, CO. FSSA remains committed to supporting our junior shooters in local, state and national level competitions, through funding to our Junior Activities Committee and through FSSA’s Grant program.  Thanks to FSSA’s affiliated clubs for their support of junior shooting programs.

We are excited to again provide funding to promote women's shooting events throughout Florida. FSSA welcome's assistance from our members to be a part of expanding our women’s shooting programs. Please contact Sue Carter, secretary@flssa.org, if you would like to get involved.

FSSA looks forward to supporting a number of state and regional shooting tournaments again this year. Additionally, FSSA will continue to provide state team funding to FSSA members who compete at the national championships. The NRA National High Power, Smallbore Rifle and Precision Pistol Championships will be held at Camp Atterbury, IN and CMP’s National Championships will be held at Camp Perry, OH. The Silhouette National Championships will be held at Raton, NM and Ridgeway, PA.

A reminder that voting for the NRA's Board of Directors is ongoing. Life and 5-year members are eligible to vote in this year's election. A list of candidates is available in the NRA's March publications. I strongly encourage all eligible NRA members to cast their vote and make their voices heard.

I’d also like to invite you to the 2024 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits that will take place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center on May 17-19, 2024, in Dallas, TX. The Exhibit Hall is open all three days and will showcase over 14 acres of the latest guns and gear from the most popular companies in the Industry.

To continue and expand FSSA's ability to support the many shooters and shooting programs that exist in Florida, FSSA relies entirely on membership dues and contributions from our members and friends. I am grateful for your support as members. Please continue to help recruit new members and/or keep existing members. Is your shooting club a FSSA Affiliated Club? If not, please encourage your club to become affiliated with FSSA. FSSA relies on your help to enable your state association to grow our shooting sports.

Finally…2024 is a critical election year at the local, state, and national levels. Our Second Amendment Freedoms are under constant attack. I encourage you to do what you can to keep our 2A Rights strong for us and the next generation. Thanks for doing your part.

Thanks for your support! Please don't hesitate to contact me with your thoughts or questions; president@flssa.org. It's an honor to serve you, our members, as FSSA President.

On behalf of FSSA’s Directors, I’d like to wish you and your loved ones a most special and very happy Easter!

It's another beautiful day in our great state of Florida. Let's get out and do some shooting!

All the best,

Ted
