A national record was broken, a national record was tied, and a great barbeque was enjoyed. Shooters from around the state, from juniors to grand seniors, competed in six rifle categories. The match lasted two days and offered the opportunity to fire 120 rounds for record at 600 yards through variable conditions of wind, rain and light.
When the shooting was done one competitor stood out from the crowd. Jorge Puignau fired an incredible 1199-97X in the Any Rifle/Metallic Sights category, dropping only one point over two days out of 120 shots. Jorge set a new national 200-21X, pending NRA approval.
Also note worthy was Jorge Caceres' excellent performance, shooting in the Any Rifle/Any Sight category. Jorge tied his own curent national record on his way to a score of 1196-77X.

Thanks once more to the Port Malabar Rifle & Pistol Club for hosting the Championships, especially Eric Kennard, Rifle Director (and cat herder par excellence) for acting as deputy match director and calling the line, Dennis Green for organizing Friday practice and managing the camp ground, and big thanks to Sam Yarosh for all your work getting the facilities in top shape. You guys, and your club, are a real asset to our sport.
